The team had the privilege of attending World Expo 2025 in Japan! This once-every-5-year event focused on Technology of a Sustainable Future, and Cultural Exchange. Our impact shined brightly, thanks to the incredible support from the Jamaica Pavilion, who proudly featured the project as their own!
How incredible is it that, during the seven-month-long World Expo, both the Expo's highlight even of "Japanese Anime & Manga Showcase" and Comic Con 2025 were held back-to-back during Japan’s “Golden Week”—a celebrated cluster of national holidays from April 29th to May 5th.
One of the Expo’s core missions is to foster cultural exchange and collaboration. And what better way to honor that mission than by presenting a Jamaican story through a Japanese art form that’s rapidly becoming a global phenomenon?
Thanks to the expertise, leadership, and unwavering dedication of the Jamaica Pavilion team, the project proudly secured Centre Stage promotion within one of the Expo’s prestigious Grand Pavilions—powerfully showcasing Jamaica’s deep commitment to cultural exchange, national pride, and global representation.
The Jamaica Pavilion team successfully secured a dedicated exhibition space for a Manga Reading and Short Film Screening, running over several days. The turnout exceeded expectations, with some attendees even standing at the back due to limited seating. Each day, the Expo Facility Team added more chairs to meet the growing demand—but remarkably, there were still people standing every single day!
We had the honour of presenting Her Excellency Ambassador Shorna-Kay M. Richards, Jamaica’s Ambassador to Japan, with a Japanese edition of the full-colour Manga. Ambassador Richards was warm, welcoming, and deeply supportive of the project—graciously inviting us to join the Expo Pavilion’s television interview, which aired on Fiji TV.
We had both the Black & White version and the Full Premium-Colour Version in the reading room. Majority of the Japanese visitors requested the colour version due to the unique aesthetics of the Caribbean and seeing Black and Mixed Characters featured as lead characters in Japanese art style!
It’s truly an honour to have our Manga Display-Shelf positioned beside the legend himself—the fastest man to ever live! Much respect and big up to the one and only Usain Bolt. His legacy continues to inspire many of us! To be positioned next to greatness, even symbolically, felt powerful!
Animation in Japan is more than just stories told in visual cartoon format, it's a big part of their culture. Out of the 180+ pavilions, several of them were big Anime companies such as Gundam and statues featuring Pokemon and Astro Boy - that were much bigger than the Pavilions of many countries that attended!
Honestly, I didn't realize Comic Con was predominantly (and I'm talking 99.5%) Western Pop Culture, I thought it was global pop-culture, and thats why I, signed up! But it's literally, Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc! But it was an honor to be amongst legends!
CComic Con was hosted at INTEX Osaka, a massive and well-organized venue designed to handle the huge crowds that gathered—over 70,000 attendees came to experience the very best of Western pop culture, featuring global icons like Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and more.
Cosplay at Comic Con isn’t just dress-up—it’s a global celebration of creativity, fandom, and identity. From handcrafted armor to screen-accurate kimonos, fans from every corner of the world bring their favorite characters to life. It's where cultures blend through costume, and storytelling becomes wearable art. At Comic Con, cosplay is the heartbeat of the crowd—uniting people across language and borders.
Everyone wanted the colour version despite it being 4X more expensive than the Black and White Version. Despite Manga traditionally being black & white, turns out it's not exactly for any other purpose other than fast serialization for print and getting printed content to fans right away at a cheaper rate!
